Day 235 of 366: Not your typical first-day-teacher-training video: A Game of Hope

I have seen many lists of beginning of the year videos. I have watched many of them. They talk of changes in education, how today’s kids are different, how teachers do and don’t succeed. They are funny. They are silly.

I don’t think any have made me tear up before.

Superintendent Jeff Ronneberg, Spring Lake Park Schools, showed the video linked below at the first day of new teacher training.

The point wasn’t how the world is changing around education. It wasn’t about some exciting new, ground breaking strategy that is up and coming.

It was about the simple act of believing in children to build their self worth. To stand beside every child, not just our own.

Take five minutes and watch this for yourself. How can you and your school community foster this kind of transformation in every member, permanent or visiting?
