Media Center Transformation: Before Shot

I am so blessed to be taking on the role of the library media specialist in a building that has a vision of the media center as the hub of the school. Even before I came into the picture, the plan was to transform the space to a flexible learning environment for groups, classes, and individualized inquiry. Over the summer, multiple shelves were removed from the a large portion of the space. While we lose book shelf space, with weeding and condensing shelves, the physical collection will still be strong.

When I visited the media center today, the room was bare. The existing furniture was pushed to the side, in part to clean the floors. But, more importantly… the new fixtures are arriving tomorrow!  I have seen the plans for the space, but I can not wait to see the reality.

Here’s an image of the media center when I left it today. Tomorrow, it will take on a whole new life. A life filled with positive energy, modular furniture, and a flexible learning space that can adapt to the needs of the learning community.
