New Middle Level Database in MN: Research in Context

ResearchinContext

ELM and Gale have shared a new database with learners in Minnesota. Research In Context is designed for middle school students. It can be found on the elm4you Middle School resource page: https://www.elm4you.org/databases/topics/middleschool

The databases search reference materials, biographies, magazines, primary source documents, and multimedia elements. What it doesn’t have that Student Resources in Context had was the higher level content such as academic journals. Not all middle school students are ready to sort through that complex of information.

Some features of Research in Context (and other Gale databases):

  • Teacher and students can create a bookmark, a direct link into a resource in the databases
  •  Students can log in with their Google Apps accounts to save articles and notes
  • Citations can be exported directly to EasyBib
  • Students can highlight text and take notes
  • Articles can be downloaded to Google Drive for offline use
  • The text can be translated for those new to the English language or in Immersion programs
  • Audio options are available for students who could use this accommodation
  • Teacher resources are available that align to national and state standards
