Call for Presenters due 2/28 for the #mnitem Metro Event

Learning is undergoing a transformation to meet the needs of the students entering our schools each day. Our media centers and extended classroom spaces are also transforming into dynamic, engaging environments. These changes are the feature of the April 11th metro ITEM event.

Are you using time, space, and tools to reach learners beyond the walls and bells of a traditional classroom?
Have you adopted a bookstore model to rethink your collection?
Are you engaging learners the new literacy such as coding?
Are you looking at how today’s students learn differently than those in the past?
If this is work that you are doing, please join me in leading the ITEM metro event.

On April 11th, you are invited to join a group of teachers, educational leaders, technology integrationists and media specialists in a day of reimagining learning spaces. This event is open to anyone who is interested in looking ahead to the possibilities in education.
The event will be hosted at Hopkins North Junior High School.
The day will feature a MakersSpace, much like the one at TIES this year. If you did not get enough time to tinker, come join us on April 11th.

Topics will include:

  • Flexible spaces: redefining where learning takes place
  • MakerSpaces: creating a place for students to explore and tinker
  • Rethinking space: Anytime, anywhere learning environments
The day will consist of:
  • 45 minute sessions discussing the hot topics of today.
  • MakerSpace tinkering and creating including time to brainstorm classroom and learning applications of the tools.
  • Edcamp style sessions to dig deeper into topics of interest.
Come join us and present! You can propose a 45 minute session OR host a MakerSpace table. Bring and share an item that could find a home in a MakerSpace. Share your experiences and how you see the item connecting to student learning.
If you plan to stay for the day you will need to register for the event. The lead presenter (or one presenter in a group) will receive a $50 discount on registration ($25 total).

Complete this application by February 28 to host a session or a Maker table.
