Day 4 of 366: The Future with Digital Text- ePub

It is ironic how the same topic can come up in various places in the same day, without any connection between the situations. I had conversations today about the possibilities (and realities) of a paperless classroom. With a media specialist, I discussed the emergence of eReaders and eTexts. On the topics of student devices, I had a discussion on how to get digital information to students. I also brainstormed an eText as a way to provide digital science content to students, even if computer labs are not available. The key to all of these pieces lies in the digitization of text.

ePub, a standard digital text format, has so many interactive elements. I’m new to the ePub world. I’ve read others’ ePub documents. I have attempted to make a few of my own. I still am not happy with how the Word documents that I created converted to ePub. I am working on the best way to do this in a PC environment. But, I recently purchased Pages for the iPad. I will soon explore how to create in that program.

I found a great collection of resources on Dave Solon’s Wiki.  This is where I plan to start to learn more.

While cleaning up my tasks, I found the video below. It is inspiring to think of the possibilities of digitalizing text. Please check it out! It blew my mind to think of the possibilities.

How could we make ePub documents for our students to guide and engage them in their learning?
