Day 10 of 366: Two PowerPoint 2007 Gems

Recording Notes on a PowerPoint Presentation

A little known feature of PowerPoint 2007 is that you can write on a presentation with a mouse, much like you could on an interactive white board presentation. Hidden in the very bottom left of the presentation mode is a pen icon. Click and choose it to add your own notes. At the very end, you are given the option to save the notes as written. Use this when giving your presentation, and post your commentary of notes to your teacher website.

You can also record narration onto PowerPoint slides.

Using a computer microphone, you can record the audio of your presentation directly onto your PowerPoint. Summarize your lesson and share it on your class website. I have had students each record their portion of a presentation, and then we combined them to make one running show.

To learn the process, visit Microsoft’s PowerPoint help.

While I give PowerPoint a hard time for its overuse and it’s output of poor presentations, it can be a powerful program when used right.
