What should be so simple, still is not…

Google has so many easy to use products. Today I worked with Google Sites and Blogger. I wanted to recreate a similar look between the two. I wanted the blog functions, but I also want the features of multiple pages with different layouts provided by a site. I tried Edublogs, which hosts this blog. But, I couldn’t get quite the look and function that I wanted. I turned back to Sites and Blogger. This blog post is more of me admitting that I need to let go of perfection for function, and that the two pages that I created will work just fine together.

What I was able to do:

  • Set the width of the site and blog to the same width.
  • Formatting two pages that wanted to work differently. I used a colored background image rather than setting the color. One kept putting a gradient in the background.
  • Find a template that allowed for the same size banner on each.
  • Create links to each other, as well as to the district media center page.

Challenges I faced without using outside (paid) tools:

  • Embedding an RSS feed in a Blogger page.
  • Embedding Twitter feed into a Site.

What challenges have you found when using Google tools such as blogger and sites?
