Choosing a Platform

I’ve tried different blogging platforms. I actually worked for quite a while to get one to work on the same platform as my new website. It would be nice to have them in the same place. But, I can’t quite get WordPress to be the website that I want. And, I can’t get other blog sites to be the blog that I want. But, overtime, I’ll use the sidebars and navigation to link my various digital spaces. In time, I’ve dropped off a few. My wikispaces died when that platform closed. That was a very sad day, as I had over a decade of presentations documented with resources on the wiki. I’ve stopped organizing my diigo account, and I actually took all the historical posts off of this blog that shared my diigo finds. It would be nice to get to fewer footprints on the internet, but there are very specific reasons why I have chosen the ones I have.  For edublogs, I like the variety of plugins, the ability to change appearance to my specifications, and the ability to customize if I want. Their support, also, has been great in the dozen years that I have had a blog on their site.

So, after I had spent hours (literally hours) working on the layout and setup on a different blog platform, when it came down to a few days before the New Year… I came back to the familiar. My old blog.

What platform have you used to blog? What features have you liked about it? What do you wish it would do for you?
