Another New Year: 2017 is Here

What seems like a lifetime ago, January 1st, 2012 marked the beginning of a blogging journey for me. I was a young mom in a young job. The title of Technology Integration Specialist was still relatively new in the education world. On that day, I made a New Year’s resolution to write every single day.  That year of 366 days was the one time that I have followed through on a resolution. 2012 was also the year that I felt most in touch with my daily work.

As I wrote last New Year’s day: since it began, this blog has changed. It has adapted from simply Technology Integration Ideas to so much more. We are in a time of evolving education, and those of us who are on board are being swept away by so many, many possibilities.

I found my blog to be a lot more than sharing with others, though I know there is great value in that. My blog became a way to reflect on every day of learning, experiences that I had, and ideas that inspire me. Through the years, the blog title changed to Reflecting Forward.

Why Reflecting Forward? John Dewey said, “We do not learn from experience . . . we learn from reflecting on experience.”

I believe this deep in my heart. When I have taken the time to note an idea, focus on its meaning, reflect on the message, and stored it for future reference: then I have truly learned.

Here’s to Reflecting Forward in 2017.
