Day 30 of 366: Farmington is Flipping, too!

Farmington is Flipping, too!

Today, Farmington brought fifteen people to hear Stillwater talk about their Flipped Classroom pilot. We viewed their process, asked questions, and toured classrooms in practice. Best part, a team of four fifth graders sat on a panel and took our questions.

Our visitors to Stillwater covered all grade levels in the district. We had representation from Teaching and Learning, principals, and the Assistant Superintendent. This was a large portion of our Farmington Flipping pilot group and the administrators that will support them.

I am so excited for this shift in learning opportunities in Farmington. I look forward to helping these teachers find a streamlined process for presenting their information, safely sharing it with students, and providing regular formative assessments in the way of short quizzes. This is the area that is my expertise.

Better yet, though, I look forward to a change in how classroom content is delivered. I look forward to active collaboration by teachers in different buildings. I look forward to watching teachers become a coach or guide during learning time, and leaving the lecture to the tape. It doesn’t dehumanize learning. It gives more human-to-human time during the class period.

As my teachers and their administrators work to figure out how to shape the classroom process, my fellow Instructional Tech Integration, Jenny, and I will be working to figure out some of the techie pieces. I want to make this about the learning- and not about the tool.

Exciting changes are happening in Farmington. I am thrilled for our students, for our teachers, and for learning itself.
